"Slowly, slowly I am starting to understand what has happened," Ronaldo said later at a press conference. "It will take time but I am so happy right now. We played a great game and we have given joy to millions of people."
"Even in my wildest dreams I had never imagined that something like this could happen.
"I would be lying if I did not say that every time I step on the pitch, every time I score a goal and every time I enter a ground to play, it is a victory for me.
"Just to be here is such a huge step for me. Even if I was not a world champion I would still be happy."
